Yesterday, McCain personally called Letterman to cancel his appearance on the Late Show, saying he is racing back to Washington to deal with the financial crises. During the taping of the Late Show, Letterman cuts over, live, to the CBS News studio where McCain is giving an interview to Katie Couric. Letterman yells at the monitor, "Hey, John! I've gotta question. You need a ride to the airport!?"
Earlier in the clip, Letterman laments about how previous candidates would have sent the VP candidate as a backup, and suggests that apparently Palin can't handle it.
The whole thing is entertaining, but the cutover to the interview starts at 6:37.
